The Faithful Test
As an Ethiopian, I grew up hearing about the wonders of Lalibela, one of the holiest places in Ethiopia. But like most Ethiopians, I did not had the opportunity to see it for myself until I was 27 years old. My main reference of Lalibela have been images presented to me online by tourists and photographers from the West. Since my first visit in 2014, I have been to Lalibela three times. And every time I went back, I have been struck by the depth of people’s faithfulness and spirituality. For me, this work embodies my reflection of Lalibela as an Ethiopian.
